The below rates are my personal rates for freelance services—I am also happy to work with the in-house rates of hiring organizations. Descriptions of each service can be found below. There is a minimum charge of $100 for copy editing, structural/developmental editing, and proofreading services.
Maybe your project is quite personal, or you’re just feeling uncertain before jumping right into editing. I want you to feel comfortable and confident with the process, so we can also set up a phone or video meeting before any services are undertaken to discuss your project and get to know each other.

An evaluation of your manuscript providing an overview of its strengths, potential areas for further review, and what I recommend as next steps (whether you wish to carry those out independently or through my services). I’ll point out what I really loved about a manuscript, any recurring mechanical errors, and areas where we might find opportunities for development. This service is often a perfect first step in the editing process, and it is also helpful when you’ve completed a project and are unsure of what to do next or if you simply want another pair of eyes on a project you’ve put so much time and effort into.
Pricing is a flat fee calculated based on the length of the manuscript.
Copy edit
$0.95/100 words
The copy edit is focused on mechanical errors—that is, issues with spelling, grammar, punctuation, stylistic consistency, and continuity. In addition to making sure there are no typos or other errors in your project, this service makes sure headings are consistent, that character details stay the same throughout a work of fiction, and attends to other matters of accuracy and consistency.
This service also provides assistance with formatting according to style guides, correcting errors in short reference pages, and checking the formatting of in-text citations. A style sheet will also be created for your manuscript. This is a document keeping track of details such as unique spellings, usage of punctuation and numbers, plot and character details, and other finicky details that can be tricky to keep consistent.
Works heavy in mechanical errors may qualify as an intensive copy edit and be priced at a higher rate (currently $1.75/100 words).
Structural/developmental edit
$2.15/100 words
The structural/developmental edit assists with the organization, execution, and direction of a text. Often operating on a more “global” level than a copy edit, this service can involve creative feedback, discussion of plot structure, diction, and flow for fiction, poetry, and other creative works. For nonfiction works, including academic texts, feedback is provided on areas such as the structure of chapters, developing your main ideas, and implementing effective introductions, conclusions, and transitions. As with the copy edit, a style sheet will be created for your manuscript.
This service includes suggested rephrasings of lines or restructuring of texts, but I’d like to emphasize that this process is collaborative—at no point do I want to wrest creative control away from you! My notes will provide you with ideas to implement as you see fit, and we will to continue to discuss the growth and change of your work the whole way through to ensure it meets the goals you have for your project. Follow-up rounds of this service can be purchased at a discounted rate.
Proofread
$0.75/100 words
The proofread is a final look at a manuscript that typically follows other editing services. It provides a last opportunity to correct any mechanical errors and ensure formatting is consistent throughout. As with the copy edit, a style sheet will be created for your manuscript, if it hasn't already been for previous services.
Back cover writing
$60 Flat Rate
If you feel like you need help writing a bio for yourself or an eye-catching description for your project, I can help with that, too! Forms with some basic questions about you and your manuscript will be sent your way if you choose this service. This service is included for no additional charge with copy edits and structural/developmental edits.
Citation correction

For works with extensive works cited lists, reference pages, or bibliographies, this service is required and can be completed concurrently with other services. It involves verifying your citations to the extent of the information I have available, assuring your citations are correctly structured according to your chosen style guide, and cross-referencing bibliography entries with in-text citations.
Pricing is a flat fee calculated based on the length of the citation list.
